Welcome to our quaint metropolis

As a non-fiction video editor, I often explain my thought process and the choices I make in my own edits and others’ edits, with the goal of creating thought-provoking work while entertaining, driving story, and remaining as succinct as possible.

For as long as I can remember, even before turning it into a career, I’ve used an editorial lens to dissect and analyze my two favorite things: books and movies—which, in my opinion, have even more crossover than books and short stories do. I usually track what I’ve read and watched, and recently I started an Instagram account of my reviews as a challenge to strengthen and quantify my thoughts. While Instagram proved to be a great starting point, with its constraints pushing my creativity, I’ve kept an eye on some fantastic creators on Substack that are truly doing the damn thing. Now, I’m ready to further expand and cultivate my own voice on the platform.

We all live in a quaint metropolis and I hope to make this tiny corner of the internet an accessible, open space to talk books and movies.

What can you expect?

If you’re brand new here—hi!!!!!! Welcome! I write spoiler-free reviews and analysis of books and movies. I try to read and watch widely, engaging with a variety of perspectives. I’m not exactly one for light or escapist entertainment—I love to be challenged, and you’ll often find glimmers of social criticism and themes of social justice in my reviews.

When it comes to books, I primarily read backlist literary fiction and speculative fiction, though about a third of my reading is nonfiction. As for films, my taste spans a much broader range in terms of release dates—from silent films to the latest releases. I’ve been dubbed are an “I like art-type girl” and the “ultimate sad girl," if that helps give you a sense of my taste. I’m still trying to get more exacting with describing what I enjoy, but you will definitely notice reoccurring themes that I hope resonate with you or inspire you to try something new.

If you’re coming from my instagram, I’ve populated all my previous reviews here. Primarily the same reviews will live here as IG, but I wanted an easier way to view my archive or categorize my posts by books or movies if you’re not into both (but you should be :D). I also know some like to have their slightly longer content separate from their shorter posts. Plus Instagram’s word count has sometimes forced me to shorten my posts, so the healthier reviews will live here instead.

Is it free.99?

Ye$! All my content will be free with the option to pledge support if I ever decide to make some coins from this in the future. That said, my wishful goal is to turn my writing into a career someday—so if you enjoy and think others might, please share with peeps. This is truly a labor of love that I want to keep growing. If you ever have any feedback please don’t hesitate to message or leave a comment.

And with that, I hope you’ll join me for some deep watching and reading.
